In a letter from Leslie Leaney of HDS to it's members the news was revealed February of 2018.

"Dear fellow diver,Further to my work with the Historical Diving Society, the Hans Hass Fifty Fathoms Award, the International Scuba Diving Hall of Fame, and Santa Barbara Maritime Museum, I am donating my diving library to the Special Collections Department of the University of California, Santa Barbara.

Leslies Leaney and Lad Handleman

My library has been used as the fact-checking base for much of what has been published in the Journal of Diving History over the last quarter of a century, and donations of other titles from colleagues and organizations will allow the UCSB Library to continue to expand in the future. I am working with Ernie Brooks and Nyle Monday and our expectation is that, through this on-going project, the library will eventually be one of the largest publicly accessible diving libraries in America, and possibly the world. We are launching the program with a reception at UCSB on March 15, and an RSVP invitation is attached. We hope you can attend and look forward to seeing you there as we add another diving related educational program to the maritime culture of Santa Barbara.

Historically your friend
